After graduating from High School in 1965, Williams was drafted into the United States Army. He completed his basic training and advanced individual training at Ft. Hood, Texas. He was sent to Vietnam in December, 1966. He served with the 25th Infantry Division located in Cu-Chi, Vietnam. On July 13th, 1967, the base camp came under attack. Williams was seriously wounded and spent the next 8 months in the hospital. He was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge, Williams began a long and distinguished career with the Disabled American Veterans National Service Organization. He served as a Supervisor National Service Officer representing veterans, widows and orphan children with claims against the Department of Veterans Affairs. After 24 years with the D.A.V., Williams retired in 1996. Although retired, he still assists veterans today filing their claims with the Veterans Administration. Williams is a Member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.
